Industrial Action – NZEI Te Riu Roa Teachers’ Strike on Thursday 16 March
The New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI) Te Rui Roa has advised the St Brigid’s School Board that its member teachers at our school will be taking strike action on Thursday 16 March 2023.
NZEI Te Riu Roa members have voted to strike because they consider funding for our schools is not sufficient to give teachers and principals the time and resources to teach.
They consider resourcing is needed to ensure that:
-
all of our tamariki thrive, and
-
we can retain our quality educators and school leaders in the sector.
St Brigid’s will be closed for normal instruction due to our Principal and the majority of our teachers being union members. However, as indicated last week, the school will have limited supervision available. Thank you to those who indicated on the form that they needed supervision for their child/children on Thursday. We have confirmed with those parents via email.
Thank you for your understanding and support in this important matter.

This Friday is Saint Patrick’s Day. St Patrick lived his life in faith and shared it with the people in Ireland. We can be inspired by St Patrick and try our best during lent especially to turn back to God in prayer.
Here is a St Patrick's prayer:
As I arise today, may the strength of God pilot me, the power of God uphold me, the wisdom of God guide me.
May the eye of God look before me, the ear of God hear me, the word of God speak for me.
May the hand of God protect me, the way of God lie before me, the shield of God defend me, the host of God save me.
May Christ shield me today. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit, Christ when I stand,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
